Not having power for the last couple days it was a toss up to where was more warm, inside or out? It was so humid and muggy so after spending time out in the garden I decided to take a nap on the couch with my beagle Bailey. Drifting softly into that cozy, sleepy state I hear a tiny voice outside say, "My name is Francine and I'm 5." Then shrieks & screams of delight from a child who is obliviously my neighbor but has been in front of the television for that first 5 years, because I've never seen her. So much for a nap. Not having power in the neighborhood for a couple days brought people out into the streets. Children whining about the heat and parents getting testy with each other, but otherwise I think everyone did pretty good.
However it took me forever to figure out what it meant to be "powerless". Hmm, what to do without my computer? Guess I'll just have to watch some movies. DUH What to eat? Well, we can heat up some canned beans in the microwave. DUH Being without air conditioning isn't so bad at least we have box fans to put in the windows. DUH
The batteries weren't in the flashlights of course so I every time I needed to find my way around the dark house I used the light of my cell phone. We were so unprepared that it was embarrassing but somehow we survived. Now the power is back. Children are back in their air conditioned homes in front of the tv and I've got my blog back. :) However happy I am to be back with technology there was something rather refreshing about not having to sift through 900 emails or being absorbed by one electronic device or another.
My name is Francine
