Osborne Live

I can’t even explain how excited I was to see Robert Osborne speak at the Alder Theater before the screening of the Cary Grant film, North By Northwest. I’m a classic movie geek so a dorky word like giddy kind of sums it up. I was very giddy. He has interviewed, befriended and touched some of the most interesting people that I idolize and here we both were breathing the same air. giddy giddy

Now about that air, when we first entered the theater it was a sea of white & shiny bald heads. Every white haired lady must have doused herself with at least one bottle of perfume because the stench was unbelievable. I’m serious, my eyes were burning but even though I could hardly breathe I knew it would be worth it to see the TCM host.

As the theater started to fill I turned to Cliff & told him that earlier I vigorously scrubbed my left boob knowing that I would never again wash it after tonight. I planned to ask Robert Osborne to sign it, looking down at my tiny chest, or to at least initial it. Cliff was embarrassed by my humor and reminded me that all the people around us probably had their hearing aids up on high.

I was surprised that there weren’t more younger people, but it was kind of nice being one of the younger chics even though I haven’t considered myself “young” in a long time. I guess I should have known that it would be an older audience when I picked a pamphlet outside the theater doors that wasn’t about the production but about strokes. Even though I was disappointed that there wasn’t a vast array of ages in the audience, one thing was true that we all loved; Cary Grant, TCM & Robert Osborne.

Robert Osborne was so great. I’ve always considered him to be a vast knowledge of every aspect of movies but I had no idea how wickedly funny he is. I could spend hours, days..weeks listening to his stories. He has an amazing way of story telling and his voice is perfect. Not squeaky or nasally. {{sigh}} It was a night to remember.

I had trouble sleeping that night. Not because of all the excitement or the jumbo of information, but the fact that I had been pickled in god awful perfume smell for 4 plus hours. I couldn’t get it off my skin.
